How to Use the Free College Brochure to Compare
Colleges
So you have a child getting ready to start applying for
college, one of the best ways to start comparing them is by
looking at the free college brochure that each
college offers. Colleges across the country are competing for
your child to attend their college so they offer these
brochures to highlight what you and your child can expect
should you chose their school to attend. There are usually four
main subjects that every school includes in their brochure so
you can compare the schools side by side.
Curriculum
Each college will let you know what type of curriculum they
offer. If it is a four year college you can expect to see what
types of majors you can declare. You will also learn of some of
the professors that have tenure there. You can usually find a
list for undergraduate studies and also graduate course. You
should also find information about the course, class schedules,
and important dates such as registration, midterm, and
finals.
Admittance
Most colleges also give you a detailed description of what
their requirements are for accepting incoming students. They
will let you know what you are required to do whether you are
an incoming freshman or if you are transferring in after
attending another school. Larger colleges will also include
information on students that are applying from other countries.
You should begin looking at admittance requirements for the
school/s that you are hoping to attend while you are still in
high school. This way you can make sure that you are taking all
the required classes for admittance.
Financial aid assistance
You will also find a section to let you know what type of
financial help you may be able to receive at the college. Some
colleges offer a way for you and your child to sit down with a
counselor. If the school you are considering offers this
service it is a good idea to use it. They can often times tell
you about any scholarships that you qualify for that you may be
unaware of. They will also help you get your financial aid
forms together to help this process go smoothly.
Campus life
One of the top things your child may be interested in is
what types of extra-curricular activities the schools offer.
Many offer community service opportunities, club enrollments,
and then there usually many sporting activities that you can
get involved in. This section will also include a description
of the places to eat on campus and will also go into a detailed
description of what to expect if you are going to be enrolled
in dorm living. Then there is always a list of sororities and
fraternities that you can contemplate pledging for.
When you are looking for a college to attend you can often
times rule out a college simply by reading their free college
brochure. Once you have compared brochures you can then narrow
down which colleges you would actually like to attend and make
plans to visit these schools. Free college
brochures will help you to figure out which school
offers what you are most interested in.
